Is the production of tobacco worse than the use of cigarettes?

  1. 0 Votes

Both the production and the use of cigarettes are extremely detrimental to the environment. Often the environmental consequences of production are overlooked. However, studies reveal that in 2004 the production of tobacco was responsible for 5% of the deforestation in Africa. In Malawi tobacco production accounts for 20% of the deforestation. Every year 600 million trees are cut down to provide fuel to dry tobacco.
