Is the production of rubber really harmful to the environment?

    Yes. There is pollutants from the left over effluent that can cause fish kills through a high biochemical oxygen demand that is lessens the amount of oxygen in water for fish. There is also the high levels of zinc that are used. It is estimated that 3,000 metric tons of zinc are released into the environment from tire wear alone – making up 25% of the zinc release to surface waters.
