Biofuels can and do harm the environment somewhat. While being far more eco-friendly than fossil fuels they can also do some harm. In order to use biofuels you need to use agricultural crops or trees. Using up the earth’s vegetation can cause rainforests (especially those in Brazil and Indonesia currently) to be chopped down to be used as fuel. Destruction of these habitats can kill the animals that live there as well as disrupt the food chain. Additionally, these cut down trees release carbon dioxide and can contribute to greenhouse gases. However, not all biofuels have to be as harmful to the environment. If you are growing your own crops to be used specifically for biofuels and do not contribute to deforestation it can be a much more eco-friendly option.
