Pre-mature green leaves falling < 1%/day from 35" maple, is this normal?

Have a 35′ well shaped NE maple, all leaves are green but many fall off every day. None of the leaves are brown or look unhealthy, everything is green but they still fall every day?

The tree could be having one of a couple problems. The maple tree family is prone to Verticillium Wilt, a disease that is most likely to occur in July and August. You can find more information about this disease on the first website cited below. Another problem your tree could be having is the stress that an urban environment causes on the tree. Maple trees have surface roots that could interfere with driveways or sidewalks. Two other possible problems could be leaf scorch and leaf chlorosis. Leaf scorch is caused by the inability of roots to provide enough water to the tree.
