Is the platapus the only mamal to lay eggs?

    Egg laying mammals are known as monotremes.  They include the platypus and echidnas, of which there are four distinct species.  These animals are only found in New Guinea and in Australia, and have all the distinct characteristics of mammals other than that they do not give live birth.
