Though it may be tempting to pick at itchy scabs, it is technically bad for you since the purpose of scabs is to protect your wounds and allow them to heal properly. Picking at them disrupts the healing process and you can even re-open the wound if you get too carried away, which makes the injury susceptible to infections once again. Even if peeling away scabs don’t re-open a wound, it could leave scarring. It’s best to leave your scabs alone and let them fall away when they’re ready.
