Penicillin is produced naturally by some bacterial cultures. Since it is isolated, extracted and purified in a laboratory, it would not be what one might consider “a natural drug” even though it is a naturally occurring compound.

There are some types of penicillin which are classified as “natural penicillins” and others which due to being altered in some way fall under the categories of penicillinase resistant antibiotics, aminopenicillins and extended penicillin antibiotics.
