Is pavement biodegradable? (Can it be?) What will eventually happen to the miles and miles of it that cover our Earth?

Pavement is not biodegradable; it breaks down due to heavy use over the course of time.  The broken down material enter the roadside environment from wind and water currents.  As far as I can tell, there’s no company or researchers who are developing biodegradable pavement.

Over a long enough time span, weather would have the same effect on pavement as heavy cars and trucks do.  Pavement, like any other rock, is capable of sustaining a heavy pounding for long periods of time but will eventually break into smaller pieces.
