Not all particle board is considered toxic. It depends on the bonding agent used to bond the particles of timber waste. Often a formaldehyde based bonding agent is used. Formaldehyde is thought to be a carcinogen and is known to leak out into the surrounding atmosphere to cause nasal and eye irritation.
Components of particleboard can be very toxic. One extremely dangerous chemical in particle that is harmful to humans is formaldehyde.
