Based on a 2004 census, Pakistan generates approximately 54,888 tons of solid waste per day, and about 20,034,120 tons anually. The country’s waste-generation growth rate is approximately 2.4% per year. This near 55,000 tons per day breaks down into roughly 30,000 in rural areas and almost 25,00 tons in Pakistani cities. Unfotunately, only about 50% of this city-generated solid waste is collected by government-run waste removal companies, leave almost half in the streets.
