is the outer core of the earth much different than the inner core?

    Besides having similar compositions, the two do cores have major differences.  Both cores are mainly composed of nickel and iron. The outer core has temperatures that range from 4400 degrees C to 6100 degrees C, while the inner core is believed to have temperatures similar to the surface of the sun.  Because there is less pressure on the outer core, it is liquid whereas the inner core is solid.  Scientists believe the outer core to have a great influence on the Earth’s magnetic field.  Little is completely known about the inner core.
