Our tulip poplar tree has leaf spots. What has caused the leaf spots on our 4-year old tulip poplar?

How can we prevent them?

Thanks, Martha and Brad

Leaf spot itself is a tree disease, which might be what your tree has (click the first link below to confirm). It is caused by a either a certain fungus or a variety of bacteria. Prevention mainly involves paying close attention to your tree and taking very good care of it, like fertilizing in the spring and deeply watering the tree when it is dry out. An unhealthy tree is an easy target for fungi and bacteria.

It might be good to call your local arborist to check out your tree, and do some more research about proper treatment of tree spot. Fungicides should be only used when completely necessary, and before the disease gets too terrible and built-up.
