Generally speaking no. Data shows either a small increase or stagnant results. Though the spread of renewable green energy sources might already showing results.
US total oil consumption has decreased because of the recession, although gasoline consumption by mid-2010 was back to pre-recession levels. Most of the US decline in demand has been in diesel and jet fuel. Worldwide, there was little demand decline; in certain months consumption year-over-year was less, but generally world consumption has been flat at around 85 million barrels a day for more or less the past 5 years.
