Other than el Niño and la Nina are there any weather patterns we have identified?

There are many different sorts of climate patterns, some that last thousands of years (like ice ages) and even some that repeat every year (like the rainy and monsoon seasons common in Africa and Indonesia).  Although, lately it’s become more difficult to predict formerly regular weather patterns due to global warming mixing things up, which is bad news for people who depend on the rainy season for their crops.

The trade winds are surface winds that flow from the equator to the poles. They are a major part of temperature distribution on the planet, as well as responsible for seasonal storms.

This image shows the five major oceanic gyres. They are formed by wind currents and the rotation of the earth.
