The idea is to store the carbon emissions underground once it is captured. It’s a process called carbon capture and storage or CCS for short. Norway was the first country to deliberately store carbon dioxide underground in order to keep it out of the atmosphere. Other countries, including the United States, are puttings funds into small pilot projects to see how to increase the scale of this process. CCS could capture up to 90% of a plant’s carbon emissions.
