Is the oil rig explosion off of Grand Isle Louisiana going to cause as much environmental damage as the BP deep water horizon one did?

According to the AP, the rig was owned by the Texas-based Mariner Energy, and was not actively producing oil and gas.

However, I wouldn’t assume that just because the rig wasn’t actively producing oil or gas that it is less likely to result in an environmental disaster. In fact, I believe the BP Deep Horizon rig that exploded also was not actively producing oil when it blew it. It was just preparing a well for future drilling.

Of course, it is unclear at this time what this new rig that exploded was doing.
