Is the oil industry depleting water supplies in California?

If you are referring to groundwater supplies, then it does not appear that the oil industry has had much of an effect on the depletion of water supplies in California. The agricultural industry has had a much greater impact by pumping groundwater in areas such as the Santa Clara and San Joaquin valleys. However, the oil industry has contributed to a significant amount of groundwater depletion in the Houston and Galveston areas of Texas.
