Is oil exploration bad for the environment?

The simple answer is yes, but it is becoming safer for the environment.  With the increased technology that we have, oil prospectors can now map out where oil actually is as opposed to the relatively random guessing of the old days.  It certainly affects the environment negatively when the drilling begins, and it isn’t good to drill either way, but compared to just a couple decades ago, technology has made oil exploration less harmful for the environment.
