It can be, until you have to store and transport the nuclear waster – like Nevada’s Yucca Mountain, or until something goes wrong – like the Chernobyl disaster in Russia. It is a very risky and problematic form of energy, not the answer in my view.
Uranium is mined like any other mineral commodity. The US imports 85% of the uranium used in power generation, an import dependency greater than that for oil.
The end product – electric energy is but the method is potentially dangerous. The amount of money to build nuclear facilities may not offset the chance of environment contamination. Secondary danger from storing or disposing of nuclear rods is and has been a very big problem.
