Yes, indoor air quality can actually be much worse than outdoor air quality because of the reason you just described. When pollutants are released inside the home, lack of ventilation often allowed them to accumulate rather than disperse. For example, toxic gases such as carbon monoxide can build up in a house and cause poisoning, while release of such gases into the atmosphere wouldn’t be deadly since it is diluted.
