In 2005, North Dakota had a population of around 636,000, while South Dakota had around 775,000.
I was able to find some slightly more recent 2009 stats: The U.S. Census Bureau estimated the North Dakota population at 646,844 and the South Dakota population at 812,383 as of 2009. Not only is South Dakota more populated, but its population is growing at a faster rate than that of North Dakota too.
