The Nissan Leaf was released in the USA in December 2010. 20,000 US customers pre-ordered the car before it was even released. Because of its zero emission status, the government offers tax incentives up to 10,000 dollars for purchasing the car. Eco-conscious states are offering additional incentive credits as well. There are plans to open manufacturing facilities in the US, but there are as of yet no Nissan Leafs actually being built inside the US borders. Nissan is planning to open a plant in Tennessee in 2013.
