Nigeria is in a trade wind zone. This causes a low level temperature inversion in the atmosphere and this type of wind leads to bouts of drier weather. However an uplift in the zone can lead to increased rainfall. Because the wind is so variable, the rainfall can also be highly variable, leading to monsoons or draughts.
