Is nanotechnology like nanotubes any more dangerous than materials already out there like asbestos and lead?

Nanotechnology or molecular manufacturing (MM) is a very broad term that refers to making things at a very small scale, the scale of atoms. Asbestos and lead are substances that humans have historically used to manufacture objects, that have been found to be poisonous to the human body. Of course, nanotechnology can be harmful to humans if nanotubes, and other such constructs, are created out of toxic substances. But, science knows much more now about what is toxic to humans, and we can use this knowledge to create safe products by MM.
