Our houses require a lot of energy for heating, lighting, and other functions – not to mention all the energy and materials it takes to build them in the first place. So if you are living in the same space as other members of your family, you are likely reducing your negative impact on the planet. In most developing countries, it is far more common than in the US for whole families (or even multiple families) to live together in one house. This reduces the need for more buildings, and all the energy and materials inputs that come with them.
