This is a tough question, especially if the mountain settlements’ only source of water is from a glacier that is melting away. Fresh water streams, rivers, and lakes are oftetimes prevalent in mountainous environments. If there is really no other source of water, and none can be transported to the location of the settlement, the inhabitants will have to move. Throughout human history, as well as the evolution of all organisms, animals and humans alike have migrated due to harsh physical conditions; migration may become more prevalent as natural resources become more scarce.
