Cold. The molecular structure of most subjects shrinks when its cold. Water is a unique case however, because it expands, unlike most liquids which shrink and contract as they become solid.

Also in the solid state. Between solid, liquid and gas, solid has particles most closely compacted together….liquid is a little more spaced, and gas has the most space between particles.
