It is true that organic farming seems to promote the small family farm over the large commercial farm with it’s environmentally unfriendly practices. However, organic farms can be pretty big, they’re just generally a bit smaller, although, they are becoming larger and more mainstream. Right now the farms are smaller because organic farming is expensive, while conventional farming can quickly and inexpensively yield a lot of cheap food, at a cost to the environment. Organic Valley is the nation’s largest organic commercial farm, but it exists as a cooperative with 1149 farming families who contribute to the brand.
