Flat panel TVs have become more popular in recent years compared to the older model tube television sets. The electricity consumption for a flat screen depends on the screen size, brightness settings and style (LCD or plasma). Tube televisions consume more standby power when they are turned off, and the newer flat screen technology allows for significantly less power to be used when the TV is turned off. Added Energy Star ratings also show which TVs follow a lower energy consumption standard than other flat panel TVs.
