Is more coal being formed every day or are we running out fast?

Coal takes a very very long time to form – upwards of millions of years. We are extracting and using coal at very fast rates. Coal is not replenishing itself fast enough. We must seek alternative energy sources, such as wind and solar, to reduce or even eliminate the amount of coal used today.

Technically coal is being formed at this very moment, but it is being done on a geological scale– which is to say millions and millions of years. We will mine all the available coal long before any new coal has the time to develop.
