Humans release about 24 billion tons of CO2 per year through the use of fossil fuels. Volcanic eruptions release an average of 200 million tons of CO2 per year, less than 1% of human emissions.  Volcanoes release more than just CO2.  The most abundant gas release by volcanoes is H2O, generally followed in abundance by CO2, SO2, H2, CO, H2S, HCl, and HF.
