Mint was originally used as a medicinal herb to treat stomach ache and chest pains. It is still commonly used in tea as a home remedy to help alleviate stomach pain. Mint is also used in medicine as a component of many drugs such as aromatherapy and is commonly used as a antipruritic in insect bite treatments. The sharp flavor of mint is also used as a mild decongestant for illnesses such as the common cold.
Yes, mint can be very good for the body….but it must also be taken wisely. Peppermint is very soothing and helps aid proper digestion, but wintergreen (essential oil) can be toxic so should be avoided. –> gum and candies should be OK because it’s flavoring, not the actual wintergreen essence.
