Mining is indeed an important part of the economy of the Philippines. The Philippines are rich in minerals and resources, so they do a great deal of mining. However, they do it pretty irresponsibly according to a lot of reports. Mining in that country has been linked to many human rights violations, and there are over 800 abandoned mines scattered across the Philippines which are extremely dangerous. The mining industry has caused terrible environmental damage to the country, but it is still a vital part of their economy.
