Absolutely. Methane is a gas that can be emitted by human (anthropogenic) causes in addition to a natural source. Methane can result from anything such as burning fossil fuels to raising livestock. The EPA believes over “60% of the methane found in the atmosphere” is a result of human causes. Methane is considered a greenhouse gas due to its ability to absorb infrared radiation in the Atmosphere. This trapped heat “contributes to a warming of the atmosphere which is why methane is considered a greenhouse gas.” Methane is believed to stay in the atmosphere for 9 -15 years.
