Syrup is made from the sugary sap of maple trees, which is harvested by “tapping” the tree (basically making a small hole so the sap can flow out into a bucket) during the fall when the tree is moving sugars up from its roots for winter. This sap is then boiled (distilled) into the syrup we all know and love.
