An atom is made up of three different subatomic particles. There is the proton that has a positive charge is relatively large and in the nucleus. The nucleus also has neutron which are relatively large and do not carry any charge. The third particle is the electron that are very small and are moving around outside the nucleus like moons orbiting a planet, and carries a negative charge.
