Is lava the hottest thing on earth?

No. Lava at its hottest (when it is first ejected from the volcano – it’s magma when below ground) is between 1,300 to 2,200 degrees Fahrenheit. Lighting seems to hold the trophy for highest recorded temperatures on Earth. When lighting strikes, it can heat the surrounding air to 55,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
