Is the atmosphere the last thing before we get to space?

Yes, however, the boundary between Earth’s atmosphere and space is not very clear.  One interesting fact is that the US determines that if a person travels over 50 miles (80 km) from ground, they are offically an astronaut.  The atmosphere is made up of three different layers, the troposphere stratosphere, and mesosphere. At 85 km, the thermosphere commences.
