Sheep (lamb/mutton meat) are ruminators which produce methane when digesting their food. Much like cows, deer and other livestock, raising large quantities of these animals for food can be detrimental to the planet. Scientists are trying to work on ways to keep these animals from producing these gasses.
Another aspect is the distance the meat travels to your plate. If the lamb was raised in New Zeland and you live in Wisconsin, that is a larger transportation footprint than locally raised cows.
