Is the lack of precious metals going to hurt the future of green tech?

neodymium, dysprosium, yttrium Thulium, lutetium and many more are among some of the precious medals used in the production of many green technologies. Neodymium for instance is used in the toyota prius, each one actually contains 25 lbs of this precious metal. Recently china has been toying with the idea of hoarding and banning the exportation of some of these metals, unfortunate because China’s mines produce nearly 95% of the current quantity.

The lack of precious metals will undoubtedly affect the way we make and innovate our green technologies. However when there is a lack of a certain fuel/resources, innovative replacements are found (see Fischer and Tropsch process)
