The Koryaksky Volcano is active. In August 2009, the volcano erupted and launched ashes 4000 meters above sea level. Before 2008, the volcano had been inactive for 51 years. It is thought that future eruptions will have the potential to be highly explosive.
Yes, it has been active since, minimally, since 1890 when it erupted for the first time recorded history. It has since erupted in 1926, 1956-1957 and in December 2008. The 2008 eruption released ash 20,000 feet into the air. This is just one of the 29 active volcanoes in Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula.
