Is the koala actually a bear?

Koalas are actually marsupials, a type of mammals characterized by giving birth to undeveloped offsprings. Koalas are related to kangaroos, possums in this regard. Bears give birth to live young like humans. My guess koalas are called bears because they resemble one.

Although they look like teddy bears, Koala bears are not bears. They are marsupials. Marsupials are mammals, but are unique because the mothers have a pouch which helps take care of the young. Koala bears and real bears resemble one another and they both like to climb trees, but they are not related.
