Is kelp really common in the ocean?

Kelp is a type of marine brown algae that tends to form ocean “forests”. Kelp is found in many parts of the world, especially in mid latitudes in cool, clear, salty water, rich in nutrients. Kelp needs a solid base to hold its roots; therefore you usually find kelp near rocky shores or in shallow open water (depths of 2m to no more than 30). Kelp will be common in these types of environments.
