japaneis red maple ,it has a green fungas on the trunk,seems it happened after it was treated with something ?

it has a couple dead branches that where there when i bought the house!!!

    It could be a lichen. When the bark is wet from dew or rain, and gets a lot of sunshine, it will grow actively. Lichens don’t actually harm plants, though. You should let them be. If you feel the need to get rid of it, though, you could always use copper fungicides labeled for ball moss.
