The field of environmental psychology looks out how human behavior is affected by the surrounding environment – whether natural or artificial. A major aim of environmental psychology is to determine how we can construct our societies to encourage good, socially responsible behavior, and minimize stress-related illnesses among people. Some branches of environmental psychology also look at what are the best and most effective ways to encourage people to care for the planet responsibly. A growing awareness of the fact that human behavior is affected by our surroundings has encouraged the field of environmental psychology to develop with increased urgency.
