Is it true that pets create more pollution than cars?

This is a topic of debate, and has not been proven as an overall answer (the statement:  “the overall population of pets in the world creates more pollution than the overall number of cars in the world” has not been proven.).  But on an individual level, this could be the case.  Now, for someone that drives an SUV 60 miles everyday and has a goldfish as their only pet, certainly their car pollutes more than their pet.  But the creation of dog food (meat and grains) requires a lot of acreage, and meat does require a lot of energy for its production.
