Is it true that Lake Salmon went extinct because of the inaction of the Bush administration? How many other species did this happen to?

The salmon are not extinct yet, but 77,000 salmon were killed not because of inaction on the part of the Bush administration, but rather, because of direct actions taken on the part of Vice President Dick Cheney despite scientific evidence that his policies would kill massive numbers of endangered fish in order to benefit local landowners. The Bush administration repeatedly refused to take actions to protect threatened species for political reasons throughout their two terms, and added far fewer species to the endangered list than previous presidents.
