Right now wind is cheaper to deploy than solar on a watt vs. watt basis. Solar power is coming down in price, because of cheaper materials being used, higher performing photovoltaic cells, better solar concentrators and more, but until inexpensive photovoltaics can capture more of the sun’s spectrum of radiation, it will likely be more expensive. Geothermal, where available, also can be a cheaper means of producing energy. Two other huge problems with wind and solar are the lack of transmission lines to generating sites and energy that will retain enough energy to make up for when there’s no sun or wind.
