As far as I can tell, the primary concern will be potential damage to your driveway, not the health of your plant. If you are planting near asphalt, brick, or other man made surface, it is best to pick tress with vertically growing roots as opposed to horizontal ones that can threaten the integrity of your asphalt surface. Also, it is important to make sure your tree is planted in such a way that it will not make contact with power lines. This is particularly important if you live in an area that is prone to lightning and other inclement weather.
