Is it really bad for the environment to burn tires?

    Yes. Tire Derived Fuel (TDF) is often seen as a solution to the problem of discarded waste tires, but unfortunately it causes a significant amount of air pollution. When tires are burned they release dioxins and furans. The EPA has shown exposure to dioxins can cause infertility, learning disabilities, endometriosis, sexual reproductive disorders, birth defects, weakening of the immune system, and cancer. Dioxins are also fat soluable so once they make their way into the food chain they spread based on diet. Furans also degrade air quality.290 million tires are discarded a year.
